Rival Consoles follows El Caso Figo with monolithic new single World Turns

1.9  2022

It’s only been a week since the prolific London-based producer dropped his 60-minute electronic soundtrack to the Netflix hit The Figo Affair: The Transfer that Changed Football, and he already follows it with World Turns — the new single from his upcoming studio album Now Is.

"The essence of ‘World Turns’ is built around this pendulum-like bass, that constantly drives the piece forward. I like having parts in music which are repetitive but everything else is changing around it, almost like a kind of hidden structure, because the repetition becomes more subliminal.

I think of this music as being like industry, the industry of stuff having to be made. The world carrying on doing things whether or not it is good or bad, relentlessly moving forward — sometimes chaotic, sometimes more ordered."

Building on his reputation for driving, experimental electronic music that makes synthesisers sound human, Rival Consoles expands on his consistent desire to create a more organic, living sound, seeing him forming pieces that capture a sense of songwriting behind the machines.

With El Caso Figo, the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the hit Netflix feature doc The Figo Affair: The Transfer that Changed Football (#1 in Spain & Portugal), Ryan Lee West laid the perfect broody musical backdrop to the story of one of football's best known stars: Luís Figo. From the directors of Péle, El Caso Figo chronicles the controversy surrounding his infamous signing to Real Madrid from Barcelona. The film is now showing on Netflix only.

Now Is will be released October 14 via Erased Tapes.
